High Temperature Resistant Nylon

2020.02.24

Polyamide (PA) is commonly known as nylon, which is obtained by the polycondensation of dibasic acids and diamines or amino acids. It is a general term for resins containing repeating amide groups -NHCO- in the molecular chain. Nylon is the basic resin with the largest output, the most variety, the most widely used and excellent comprehensive properties among the five general engineering plastics. Among the nylon series, PA6 and PA66 have the largest output and consumption, accounting for about 90% of nylon production. The reason why nylon can rank first among the five major engineering plastics is mainly because it has many excellent properties, and has outstanding characteristics in mechanical properties, chemical properties, and thermal properties.

Since the successful development of PA66 by DuPont in the United States in 1939, nylon has been developed for 70 years. Nylon was first used in fibers. Since the early 1960s, due to the rapid growth of the market for engineering plastics to replace metals, nylons of various specifications have been developed and applied. In the 1990s, due to the miniaturization and high performance of electronic and electrical equipment, the requirements for materials were further expanded. The application of SM T (Surface Mount Techno log y) technology requires materials to withstand higher temperature soldering processes. In addition, in the automotive industry, the plasticization of metal parts for engine parts, fuel systems, exhaust systems, and cooling systems all require alternative materials to have excellent heat resistance.

High temperature resistant nylon refers to nylon engineering plastics that can be used above 150 ℃ for a long time. High temperature resistant nylon has good abrasion resistance, heat resistance, oil resistance and chemical resistance. It also greatly reduces the water absorption and shrinkage of raw materials, has excellent dimensional stability and excellent mechanical strength. At present, the industrialized varieties are PA46, PA6T, PA9T, etc.
