POE-g-GMA

the compatibilizer of PBT PET alloy

the toughener of PBT/PET

PBT PET Alloy

2021.06.07

There are many differences in processing and applications between polyethylene terephthalate and polybutylene terephthalate due to the difference in crystallization behavior. Due to the high glass transition temperature and cold crystallization temperature of PET, its application range is limited. The rapid crystallization, toughening and reinforcement of PET must be solved to become a more valuable engineering plastic. The rapid crystallization of PET can reduce the injection molding cycle. PET alloys and the use of nucleating agents in the alloys were developed to improve the disadvantage of slow crystallization.

PET/PBT blends are used as engineering plastics. The biggest disadvantage is the strong notch sensitivity and low notch impact strength. The commonly used toughening agents are EPR, EPDM, SEBS and POE elastomers. In the traditional elastomer toughening process, due to compatibility and other issues, the toughening effect is not very obvious. Therefore, the glycidyl methacrylate is used for bonding Polyethylene-octene copolymer (POE-g-GMA) toughens PET/PBT.
