Polyolefin Hot Melt Adhesive
2020.03.30
Polyolefins are thought to lack polarity, resulting in poor adhesion. The low surface energy of polyolefin cannot satisfy the surface tension of the adhesive is smaller than the surface tension of the adherend. With the development of bonding technology, people have increased the polarity of polyolefins in various ways, making polyolefins a popular choice for hot melt adhesives.
The hot-melt adhesivebonding mechanism of polyolefin is generally considered to be the process in which the surface of the polyolefin is heated and melted by the heat from the hot-melt tape, and the surface of the hot-melt adhesive and the molten polyolefin is dissolved and diffused with each other. Adhesive bonds are first created by the effect of wetting. Wetting ability is related to adhesive strength and is also affected by mechanical properties. Reducing the interfacial tension can increase the bonding strength. Material polarity affects the amount of interfacial tension. The greater the difference in polarity between the two phases, the greater the interfacial tension. For wetting-based bonding, the closer the polarity is, the better the effect.
