Because the two resins are completely incompatible in PP/PS blends, the blends have serious phase separation and poor performance. In recent years, there has been a new understanding of PP/PS blending system. Adding a small amount of PP modification to ordinary PS can improve the grease resistance of the product (thermoformed product). Similarly, adding a small amount of PS to the PP matrix can improve the flow properties of the melt and has been used in actual production. In the compatibilized blending system of PP and PS, due to the interphase adhesion and the reduction of the interfacial tension between the two phases, the aggregation of the dispersed phase is prevented and the dispersed phase is stabilized. Semi-crystalline PP and amorphous PS are typical incompatible polymers. From their own structure and performance characteristics, a variety of methods can be used to prepare PP/PS alloys, such as a binary interpenetrating network system; The segment or graft copolymer compatibilizes the PP/PS system.
