Study on Polystyrene Alloy

It is an important direction of polymer development to improve the properties of polymer materials by blending modification technology. The disadvantages of PS are hardness, brittleness, poor heat resistance, environmental stress cracking and flammability. Through polymer alloying, two or more kinds of polymer materials can be concentrated on the alloy.

According to the law of thermodynamics, most polymers are incompatible, and few are completely compatible or partially compatible. Compatibilizer should be added to the latter two systems. PPO / PS alloy system is a completely compatible system. Both of them are amorphous polymers and can be blended in any proportion. PS acts as internal plasticizer to improve the flowability of PPO. PS and Po alloy system is incompatible system, but the ratio of them is very different. To improve some properties, compatibilizer can not be added. The commonly used compatibilizers include SEBS, SBS, etc.

PC / PS alloy can be prepared by melt blending of PC and PS, and the processability of PC can be improved. PC and PS are partially compatible. Reactive polystyrene can be used as compatibilizer to improve its physical properties. The compatibilizer can also be used in the preparation of PA / PS alloy.
