The Research on Interfacial Compatibility of Bamboo Powder HDPE Composites

Bamboo-plastic composite material combines the advantages of bamboo and plastic, and can be recycled and reused, has low cost and excellent performance, greatly improves the comprehensive utilization rate of waste resources, and has a very obvious promotion effect on comprehensive environmental management. Interface compatibility directly affects the uniformity of the thickness, shape, structure and dispersion of the interface between different materials, and ultimately determines the performance of composite materials. How to improve the compatibility between polar bamboo powder and non-polar plastic matrix is the key to preparing bamboo-plastic composites with excellent properties.

 

The use of maleic acid (MAH) as the interface modifier and the use of polyethylene wax to modify the surface of bamboo powder is an effective treatment method to improve the performance of bamboo-plastic composites. The polyethylene wax is grafted to bamboo through maleic anhydride. On the powder, the treatment agent and the bamboo powder have a chemical reaction. The polyethylene wax coated on the surface of the bamboo powder after maleic anhydride treatment makes the bamboo powder easy to disperse in the matrix, and the agglomeration phenomenon is greatly reduced. The interface is more closely integrated.

 

The compatibility effect can also be improved by adding COACE®K2G. Because it is EVA-g-MAH, the polar monomer vinyl acetate and maleic anhydride are introduced. The polar monomer vinyl acetate can form with the hydroxyl group in the bamboo powder. The chemical bonds combined in the form of hydrogen bonds reduce the polarity of the bamboo powder, and maleic anhydride will react with the hydroxyl group, thereby improving the compatibility between the bamboo powder and PE. The addition of EVA-g-MAH can greatly improve the notched impact strength of bamboo-plastic composites, and within a certain range of addition, the melt flow rate of the composites will increase, but too much EVA-g-MAH is added Will affect the tensile strength of bamboo-plastic composite materials.
