TPU modified nylon

Toughening Mechanism of PA1010ester-Based TPU Blends

2022.01.10

Polyamide (nylon) engineering plastics, commonly known as nylon, has a history of more than 70 years. Nylon has a series of excellent properties such as high strength, wear resistance, toughness, self-lubricating, good electrical properties, oil resistance, and weak acid and alkali resistance. Moreover, the raw materials are easily available and the price is moderate, so its application is more and more extensive.

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) elastomer has both the characteristics of plastic and rubber. TPU is an A-B block copolymer. Its molecule contains both soft and rigid segments. The soft segment is composed of long-chain polyols. The soft segment determines some of the final properties of TPU, such as elasticity, low-temperature flexibility, and to a certain extent, the expansion and hydrolysis properties of the polymer; the hard segment is composed of two small molecules. It is composed of alcohol or diamine and isocyanate, and the hard segment shows hardness, elastic modulus, mold release and high temperature performance (thermal stability). The hard segment obtains a strong physical cross-linking structure through intermolecular hydrogen bonds, forming a micro-phase separation structure, so even if there is no chemical cross-linking structure, it exhibits rubber elasticity. As an elastomer, polyurethane can maintain good elasticity in a wide temperature range, and at the same time has good low temperature resistance, and the impact embrittlement temperature is lower than -60 ℃, which can form a good complement to nylon in some properties .
