Starch-based films have been considered for many years as alternative polymeric materials for petroleum-based plastic-related industries due to their cheap, renewable and fully biodegradable properties and their potential barrier properties. However, compared to synthetic plastics, starch-based films suffer from their brittleness, susceptibility to aging, and high hydrophilicity. The absorption of water accelerates the degradation and recrystallization of starch and loses its mechanical properties.

Efficacy of Poly(Lactic Acid)-Carbon Nanotube Nanocomposites Prepared by Reactive Processing of Male
carbon nanotubes
PLA-g-MA
bulking agent
The mechanical properties of nanocomposites are usually influenced by the interfacial adhesion of the polymer matrix to the nanofiller. Several studies have shown that the weak interface promotes failure in the interfacial region due to ineffective strain transfer. An effective strategy to improve the performance of PLA is the addition of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). To improve the surface adhesion of PLA and carbon nanotubes, a benzoyl peroxide and maleic anhydride (PLA-g-MA) was prepared using a reactive process. The effectiveness of PLA-g-MA as a bulking agent for PLA/PLA-g-MA/CNT nanocomposites was verified.

PET
Thermoplastic polyester elastomer, also known as polyester rubber, is a type of linear block copolymer containing polybutylene terephthalate polyester hard segment and aliphatic polyester or polyether soft segment. TPEE has both the excellent elasticity of rubber and the ease of processing of thermoplastics, with adjustable hardness and freedom of design.
